Your Vietnamese journey

CNN producer Giang Nguyen's family fled to Germany from Vietnam in 1980.  Share your family's story below

This April 30th marks the 35th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, known by the iconic image of the last U.S. helicopter leaving Saigon. Hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese have fled the country in the aftermath, settling throughout the world, including the U.S.

Since many documents were lost or destroyed after the war, little is documented on that exodus of boat people and refugees leaving the country by the millions. Groups like the Vietnamese American Heritage Foundation are making an effort to preserve that part of history by collecting oral histories and organizing online groups to collect photos.

If your family left Vietnam after the war, CNN.com wants to hear about your journey. Share your family's story. How did your family leave Vietnam and where did they settle? Share photos and video of your family's experience making a new life in a new country.

Please share your story before Friday, May 14.
